Holy, what does it mean?

God is unique and different from everything else that is. To say this, we say that God is holy. However, when most people hear that God is holy they think that that has something vaguely to do with God being good and pure and with God being without any badness or evil. All of this is true, God is perfect, He does not do anything bad or wrong. He is the one who has made good good, and He is the one who tells us what is bad. However, this is only one part of God being holy. There is much more to it than just that. God is unique and different from everything else that exists in many other ways.

God is the only one who has the power to do anything; there is no one or no thing more powerful than He is. God is the one who created the whole world. God is the one who made the angels, He made us as humans, the sun, moon, and the stars. He created everything. Unfortunately, some of the angels, and later we humans as well, decided to disobey God and what He had said was right and wrong. Yet none of us, not even Satan, come close to being as powerful as God.

He is the only one who knows everything; there is nothing He does not know. We can learn a lot of things in our lives, and there is a lot of information that we have collected and can get to on the internet. Yet that is like one grain of sand on a beach compared to what God knows. He knows how many hairs we have on our head, how many stars there are in existence, and He knows the answer to everything.

He is the only one who is everywhere; we cannot escape from Him. We can be in one place and hear about things that happen in other places of the world, but none of us can be two places at the same exact time. God, however, is everywhere in a way that we cannot even begin to understand.

He is the only one who has always existed. This one is also impossible to fully understand. He was never born and He will never cease to exist.

He is the only one who never changes; He is always and will always be the same. God always does what is right. God is not going to go from saying that stealing is wrong to saying that stealing is alright. God is not going to go from being a good God to being bad or evil. His character, who He is, never changes.

Thus we see that God is unique and different than everything else that there is. Because He created us, because He is completely good, because He is all powerful, when He created us He told us to live in the unique way that He lives. He told us to live doing what is right. We are supposed to be holy as He is holy.

Now when we say we are supposed to be holy like He is holy, we do not mean that we are supposed to be all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere, because that is impossible. He is not telling us to be God, He is telling us to be good and pure like He is pure, to live in the things that He has shown us are right and to not live in the things that He has shown and told us are wrong. By living in obedience to what He has said is good and right we are saying that He is indeed right and good and worthy to be followed and obeyed.

Since God is always good and pure, we should do what God says and does, since what He says and does will only be good and right. By doing what He says and does, we are agreeing with Him that He is always good and pure. God wants us to do that, because if we do that, we are doing what He created us to do, since as a good and pure God He would only create us to do what is right and good. By living this way our lives declare how right, true, and unique God is.
